Shannon & Tim had their annual vacation (alone) so we got Lakota mid-day on Friday till mid-day today (monday). All was good though, well, other then the pure excitement from Perrin when they arrived. I had to take a breather outside alone while they played and screamed.... For the better part, Friday was rather uneventful.

Saturday however, was filled with much fun. I got up, played on the net till I had my fill of coffee, then went out to eat where I got the once again steal a lemon!

After that we came back and rode our bikes all over the yard, including the back and front fields. Here is Lakota working her way to the Pond. We parked the bikes by Twocan Tree (it's magickally protected to keep the bikes safe) and made our way around the back side of the pond, then up the side field. I called Hazel (the neighbors) and got permission to make it over into their fields as well. We made it all over our yard and theirs over the next two days, finding high adventure, hiding from Helicopters, and invisible terror-dactyls.

We also found several tracks...
Cletus
Deer
Bigfoot (really?!?)
and random monsters (monster track one, monster track two)

We named several of the places around the yard as well...
Twocan Tree, which is near Twocan Gorge, where cletus stayed at the top... It's over 6 foor deep at one point, and travels down to where Lakota had to cross over the muck and mud.

We made it to the furthest corner of the yard to see where the properties met. We named it "Fourth Corner Tree" which is near Fourth Corner Creek. One of the ways you can get there, is to cross over another brook near Annebelle Pond (which is not the big pond, more like a random large puddle). Once that is crossed you must then climb up a small incline and follow a horse trail which enters the wood along TwistKnob Trail (Twistknob trail marker)

On the other side of the yard, where we spent most of the time, we had to cross over Tweofalls Bridge, which is a neat root that crosses the branch between two small falls.

There were other names and places that we happened across, but those are the only ones with images...
Prickery Trail, which leads to the beginning of the creek which crossed through to the pond. (the direct route to Fourth Corner)
Dead Mans Walk (it's marked by a skeleton & briars) and is the long way to reach  the Fourth Corner.

We spent Saturday night in a tent near the fire, but only after we had Vickey & Norm over for some hot dogs & marshmallows.

A few weeks ago I was at hobby Lobby and they had their wood crafts on sale so I grabbed a few bird houses so that I could paint them and give them away for Christmas. I didn't happen to get to them before then though so they sat around here till yesterday...

Qryztufre's Birdhouse Lakota's birdhouse

Lakota & I spent several hours with some markers, some colored wooden pieces, and a little bit of glue to make the two houses you see above. They are not completely finished though, as both need a clear coat of paint so that the colors will not bleed. I'll eventually get to that before spring ;)

We picked up Lakota Friday evening and kept her all weekend long. We didn't do all that much Friday as it was getting late, but we did talk about what we'd be doing the rest of the time. Rather then bore you with what was said, I'll just go on and say what was done...

Saturday we made a doll together. Lakota did a fantastic job sewing things together, and while I did help, she did a lot of it making the doll we made, the doll she made. We named the little thing Lisa Ashley P. and this is how she looks:
The Doll Lakota madethe doll Lakota made

Later Saturday we headed out to Cleavland for some crablegs and then to the Hobby Lobby to get some more crafting supplies. I'll get into that in another post... When we got home Lakota made a small quilt for Lisa...

Lakota got the short end of the stick when she was born on Christmas Day. It pretty much means that she get's "double gifted" or in some cases simply shorted gifts. It also means that having a party on her birthday can be difficult and in her 9 years it's only happened once...and that one time was yesterday!

We all lied to her and made up stories...

Lie #1: Cyndi had to run to Cleavland to drop off some gifts to a friend. The plan was to meet over at the Walmart parking lot because it would not be all that busy.

Lie #2: Shannon and Tim had to run over to Amanda's house so that they could help her with her bad back (this was actually a half-truth, Amanda really did throw out her back and needed help).

Lie #3: I had to take a tub of stuff (presents) over to Mom's to help Norm with something.

Mom, Norm, Angela & I then headed over to Amanda's so we could follow her car to Cleavland. We packed up all the gifts in the minivan and then drove to the big city. Once we were on the way Cyndi and Lakota headed out to drop off that gift.

We found out that the back road is a lot shorter then the main roads, as where the two meet we saw Cyndi pass us. Cyndi then had to swing by a gas station to get gas she really didn't need so we could pass her.

We made it to the Chinese restaurant (as that is where Lakota WANTED her b-day part, which was actually planned for next week). Michael and Kim (Lakota's other Papaw and half-aunt) met us there and we got a really big table and simply waited for Cyndi & Lakota.

Cyndi pulled up near the place and "realized" that it was actually open. They decided to step in and grab a quick bite... the look on Lakota's face was PRICELESS as she realized that she was getting a surprise party ON her birthday!

Dec. 18th, 2007 @ 12:55 pm Cthulhu Cookies
Last weekend Lakota got the chance to bake cookies with my Mom. My mom didn't have the normal cookie recipes as the recipe book still seems to be packed away someplace, so she got some pre-made cookies. Some with reindeer, some with Santa.

They were pretty basic and already had a design, but that did not stop the girls from decorating them some more. Once they were cooled and I got a chance to grab one I could not believe my eyes!

It was not the image of Jesus of the Virgin Mary that most would assume to see the visage of on something christmasy, it was none other then the Thing That Should Not Be himself... Dread Cthulhu!

Over the last couple of weeks Cyndi and I have been blessed with two people offering us Deer. The first one was huge and was around 120 pounds after it was beheaded, gutted, skinned, and front footless. We pulled just over 30 pounds of meat from it, and likely could have gotten more, but at the time we didn't have a meat grinder, so the trouble of getting any remainder meat was simply not worth the time or effort.

Lakota helped us with that one:
Graphic images under cut )

The second deer was significantly smaller, but did have it's head...well, most of it. LOL. The hunter shot it in the side and with a bit of bad luck exited the deer head side. This made the little 5 point buck worse then even a huge doe. The bullet went out between the antlers so there was NO WAY for a trophy, not head mount, no antler mount, nothing...nothing by a play thing for Perrin and some meat!

Perrin helped with this one:

Current Location: Cades Cove
Inner Rhythem: The Skeeters & the Bedbugs song!
I had a great birthday Friday followed by a rather lazy Saturday, where one of the lazy things we did was head out for a bit of shopping. My mother and Cyndi were in the front of the van, and I was in the back. I was, for the better part, ignoring the conversation that was taking place till I heard those dread words…

Mom: I was thinking that today was nice, maybe we should have headed out to Cade’s Cove.
Cyndi: NO WAY! ~ I was thinking that exact thing!
Me: OH GOD NO… not again!

The conversation continued, and it was certain there could be no getting out of the trip, for tomorrow (which would be Sunday). I offered for them to take Amanda, so I could watch Perrin. They thought that was a wonderful idea, so they called Amanda to see if her AND Perrin could go. She could not because she is not into that whole two hour road trip to sit in the car for two hours to ride back for two hours thing. I offered to babysit for Amanda, but they said she didn’t need a sitter. So I offered for them to take Shannon, while I watched Lakota and Devin, but again, that was a no go because they called, and Devin could not make it, and Lakota and Shannon wanted to go. This left me excuseless, and along for the ride.

Oh well… I decided to make the best of it.

Cyndi & Shannon rode in the front, Mom & Perrin rode in the middle, and Lakota and I hung out in the back (near the snacks, but don’t tell anyone). We played a game to see who could find a certain car or a certain house (like a house with a green roof, or a bank, or a red mustang) so that pretty much passed all the time on the way there. It was a pretty good game, and we ended up tying as we pulled into the Cove, so we left at that, with two winners.

When we pulled into the cove, we pulled over, and I flopped the two back seats down so that Lakota & I could ride with the back up. From there on out I had the very most bestest of times! Even though we did not really see all that many Animals…in fact, we only saw a half dozen deer on two trips around the place. What made it fun was the “quality family time” that we all had.

Lakota stayed with us for several days. She was, as always, a pure joy. Friday Cyndi had to do some training in some far away land so was late getting home from work, Lakota and I missed her very much and were grateful when she finally got here. We greeted her with hugs and kisses, then headed outside to build us a fort on the patio with tables, table clothes, chairs, and a few sticks.

Saturday the three of us got the chance to head back to that same far off land so we could go shopping at some rather nice mall. Amanda took us, and of course Perrin went.  Perrin was pretty good for a child his age, in a mall, and he got to play in some strange kiddie area for an hour or so, so I'm pretty sure even he went away a winner. Lakota got $10 to spend, which of course turned into more like $15 (plus food) but it's all good. I'm always glad to spend my limited cash on the grand kids... She got jewelry for the most part, some pretty blue butterfly stuff that matched her current outfit. We also stopped at a dollar store while Cyndi was off getting shoes. I got Perrin a rubber alligator that *SQUEAKED* when you squeezed it which kept him busy for a while, and I got Lakota a cell phone. We also got Smoothies and Pizza...

Sunday we went to Walmart to pick up a few things, and while there we played with one of those pin thingies that you can do neat hand prints behind. Guess who these people are: person one & person two.

When we got back home Lakota & I went on a grand treasure finding adventure by following one clue after another that led us all around the yard to find a true pirate treasure. (I wrote the clues us a few weeks ago, and the treasure was two foam swords I got on clearance at a dollar store). In order to play pirates correctly after we found the treasure we headed inside to make some proper hats. Now guess the pirate: Pirate one & Pirate two). We also made a boat by taking a large box like thing and propping it up on an old antenna piece. This, in effect, made a gargantumungous teeter-totter which was REAL fun. I'll try getting pics of that later...

Once we got done with that we watered the garden with the nasty pool water, re-filled the pool, then get Cyndi to come out and play in the water with us.

This weekend was the very most bestest weekend I've had in a LOOOOONG time!

Weekends here are always busy, if you’ve been following along with my journal you’d likely know that. But busy is not always bad, as some times the things that need to be done are really wants. This was one such busy weekend that was thoroughly enjoyed.

Saturday morning it started with Cyndi swapping cars with Amanda on her way home from working the nightshift. She brought Perrin along with her so his mama could get a few things done around the house. Cyndi then swung by here to pick me up, and then we headed over to Shannon’s to pick up Lakota.

The plan was to swing by the Cemetery to plant some flowers on Cyndi’s mother’s grave, and after that we headed up the mountain for a bit of sight seeing, and some tranquility that can only be found along the creeks there.

We stopped at Telico Grains Bakery for some munchies, and a little place called “Seven Sister’s Honey Acres” and got a few little nifty things (including some yummy honey sticks). Then it was up the Cherohala Skyway we went…

We stopped at one of the various lookouts to have a picnic and some sightseeing. While we were there we had races around the picnic table. Of course Perrin and Lakota kept beating me…I’m not the young man I used to be. After all that running I sat down on a log to rest. Perrin, in an attempt to make me feel better, sat down beside me. After a short rest we walked up a quarter mile, paved trail to the lookout. On the way up we spotted something stinky up the way which turned out to be bear poo, which we walked around holing our noses. The rest of the walk we kept our eyes pealed for the relieved animal that relieved itself. We eventually made it to the look out, though the sun was in our eyes so the pictures didn’t turn out that well, but the images are something we’ll likely not forget. On the way back we stopped to change perrin’s diaper, which gave Lakota some quiet time with Annebelle.

After we left there it was off to the Santeetlah Creek. It simply must be the most magickal place in existence… see for yourself!

Lakota and Perrin had a blast trying to skip a few stones, and rather then explaining it here I’ll just let the video speak for itself.

You can check out more pics HERE (I'll update it tomorrow with more pix) and more video HERE.

Lakota & I made a new clue this weekend…

CampFire Clue!

All members of the family are listed (including my mother, Amanda, & Perrin). There are 9 rooms & 9 weapons.

The Nine rooms are; Boys Cabin, Girls Cabin, Outhouse, Pond, Archery Range, Pavilion, Pony Rides and a Petting Zoo. There are also Forest Trails…that lead in & out of the other areas (replacing the old secret passages)

There are nine weapons, rope, knife, tent stake, hammer, axe, log, hotdog poker, and two more that are escaping me…

We also added ‘camp cards’ which are marked by giant orange stars on the new custom (hand drawn) board. When you land on a star you pick one of 9 cards which send you to various locations on the board…which may or may not be where you are wanting to go.

The board itself, as I pointed out, is handmade, it’s on a piece of cardboard that we cut from the side of a box. We drew little squares leading this way & that between the areas in a rather hap-hazard fashion.

Overall playability of the game is a 7, replay is likely an 8 (about the same as normal clue), though game design (graphics) are around a 3 because Lakota & I are not the grandest of artists ;)

I look forward to playing it more *YAY*

I kinda skipped an update due to the various other things that came up through the week...like the furnace & the extra time with Perrin...

Last weekend was raining & I was recovering from a cold so Lakota's visit was done mostly inside...one saturnday morning the girls and I headed over to the Hobby Lobby in Cleavland so Cyndi could get some more Art Supplies. While she was looking Lakota & I wandered around looking for some nifty things...

We got "create-a-mugs" and her's has some nice birds drawn on it now. She took it home & I reckon she's using it...mine has oozing slime falling over the side with the words "CHRIS GERMS ARE HERE".

And then got some modeling clay that we fooled around with for most of her visit. We made her a special stone (SEE HERE)  and a deserted isle with a little camper (HERE and HERE)

We also got a small treasure chest, some fake roses, and...and...and I swear something else which is escaping me at the moment...

All in all, we spent $11 and will have several weekends worth of fun from it...so I think we did pretty good.

We also forded the widest river in the kingdom by hoping stones, trekked through the dread forests, and sat around in our tree castle waiting for the next opportunity of saving the world from emanate danger.

Who did I do this with you ask?

Well, the Lady of Three Halves of course! The Warrior Princess Knight Lakota! She is half Warrior, half princess, and half Knight. And together with my trusted stic...erm, long sword and her magickal blade we tromped around the yard for hours in search of danger to face.

Yes, the adventures of an old man and his grand daughter are now things of legend... stories have been written, songs have been sung, and epic poems have only just begun!

Currently I generally just post random crap in this thing, most of it funny, the rest of it poetry. I rarely post actual updates unless it's about the skunk (which by the way, I just bought a new strap for my sling).

Well, I've been thinking about actually journalizing...not every little thing, but at least 2 or three times a week I plan on giving actual updates. Do you guys actually care to read these things?

I also want to post up more of my dreams...which was my actual intent of starting a Live Journal...I just never really got into it. Ya'll wanna give me your insights into my mind?

I've also recently joined the ADF with Cyndi, and with that I need to keep a log of certain aspects of my progression.

I have a few options...either putting all three in here, one or two in here, or putting them all into a new account. Do you guys want to read about these extra things? Hehe...gods forbid someone actually JOURNAL in their LJ (which is almost unheard of).

I plan on putting it in LJ, now it's just a matter of how my flist feels about the added strain in their flists ;) (I'm keeping my friends in mind for this).

Lakota was, as many of you know, Homecoming Queen this year and last night she was in a Christmas Parade. She got to ride in the back of a truck waving all a bunch of strangers and got to make everyone's Christmas just a little bit better by yelling "MERRY CHRISTMAS" to them all. Her parents rode in the cab of the truck so there was not enough room for the little monster, Devin. That meant that someone had to watch the little beast...and that someone was me (and Cyndi)...the little guy got on Cyndi's nerves because his spirit is a bit big for his tiny little mortal shell...but I found him to be adorable. Now don't get me wrong, by the end of the night I certainly had enough...but I still adore him, and even more so now.

We went to Tony's (a little pizza place) to eat and he had more fun acting like Johnny Depp playing with taters on the end of his fork and spoon (dancing) then he did eating but he did eat... Or at least according to the amount of food on his shirt he did. After that we headed back to his house for a bit where I got to read him a story (much to his horror). After about an hour we walked back to town to watch the parade...

We stood by the fire dept/cop shop and were the first to see Santa as he made his way to the front of the parade lines. Devin got a kick out of being able to touch the fancy fire trucks as they pulled out rather then just watching them fly down the street with sirens blaring.

He was torn between wanting to be held and wanting to run amuck throughout the parade...though this likely has a bit to do with the amount of sugar in his system as the people on the various floats tossed out handfuls of candy in our general direction.

We got to see Santa again, the Mayfield cow, baby Jesus, two rather crappy high school bands, and the Shriners on their little cars (which Devin was in AWE over). I'm not all that sure what was after that though as Devin began to get too cranky to handle as his sugar buzz subsided...so we headed back to his house to and coaxed him into sleeping.

All in all I really enjoyed the little cuss and am looking forward to watching him again in the future.

Yesterday was Homecoming for Lakota's School. Cyndi & I had to sit through 2 games (one of which Lakota was a cheerleader for) so we could see who won Queen. Out of all the cheerleaders (4 groups from like 6 or 7 grades) Lakota got Homecoming Queen!

The only real issues I have with the whole thing is the "contest" is not based upon any real skills (such as how adorable you are, popularity, or cheerleader-know-how)...it's only requirement is that you raise the MOST money for the Football team. All this does is teach these little girls is that the only important thing in this life is MONEY.

Granted, this system lets the fat little girl with a bad complexion actually get a chance to win...and as such, I think I like the system better then it being based only upon Popularity...which is how the King wins (the Cheerleaders vote for him).

All in all, I'm very proud of Lakota and regardless of the goods & bads of how this thing is ran, she did work her ass off to earn a lot of this money. As did Cyndi & Shannon (Lakota's Mom). I'm proud of them all actually...but mostly for Lakota...she actually said "I feel bad that that other girl did not win" and I'm pretty sure she meant it...the other girl was sad, and Lakota's warm heart went out to her...but not really out far enough to make her REALLY wanna remove that crown & pass it along *smirk*

Yesterday (9/11/05) Cyndi, Lakota, & I went on a road trip to Cades Cove. Lakota colored in her coloring book for most of the travel time so that kept her quiet & Cyndi & I sane Once we got up there the first thing we did was head to the gift shop so I could get a few things for my family back up in Michigan. Lakota wanted a stuffed bear but at gift shop prices we compromised at a picture When we were there a ranger asked if Lakota wanted to take a mini-class on bear handling. It was really cool...she got to use a blow-gun (which she blew a bull's eye), and also got to measure the ears, body, and other parts of the fake sedated animal.

After that we headed to henry Whitehead Cabin where I got pics from the front, and side. I even got one of a little building next to it. We had a picnic in the yard. Cyndi accidentally got a yellow watermelon but it was good anyway Especially when Lakota almost grabbed a spider while filling up on the melon. After we ate we got a few pics of us inside the house. Lakota was afraid to be alone in there so I was next to her through most of it. Cyndi and I also got the chance to sit next to the fireplace. I really liked the vibes coming out of one of the corners in there and would love to go back at some point Lakota however refused to go there alone.

Once we left there we headed around the scenic loop which seemed like road after road after road but was really just a winding circle. We stopped to see one buck, then stopped for two bucks (1st & 2nd). We also got lucky enough to see not one but two (or was it three) deer and a coyote pup. Sadly some of the deer pics did not turn out L )

We got tired of looking out over field after field and mountain after mountain so we headed to the picnic area that had a nice little creek. We got out feet wet for a bit...Lakota had a blast walking on water and so did I but I've already talked about all that...She had a blast playing on the large rocks about, but then again so did cyndi & myself. Though honestly Cyndi had more fun just playing in the water. Lakota was nervous crossing some of the slippery stones so I had to help her. Cyndi & I had a chance to lay down for a bit and look up through the trees...by the gods I love doing that.

We had to go after that though cuz it was starting to get rather late...and while Lakota was sad that we had to leave such a pretty place she thanked her Unci and gave her a kiss.

The majority of my weekend was discussed by Cyndi so I'll just Link you there to save myself from having to retype it all...but here is the summery.

Cyndi & I will be heading up to Michigan on the 16th. This is cool cuz she'll finally be able to meet all my friends and Family...I simply adore her & I know they all will too J

There is a shed & storage building built now (most of it done last week). Most of the work was done by Cyndi's ex, but I'll not be going into details about that.... In a way it was nice not having to do it all myself (in fact I was just the helper for a bit of it...he did like 95% of everything, but then...we paid him for that so it's all good). At any rate I'll get some pics of the buildings as soon as the surrounding yard is cleaned up a bit more.

Cyndi went to Lakota's ball game on Saturn's day to paint faces on kids...OH I feel so sorry for her. Kids can be SOOOO annoying but it's all good because it was for a good cause. Lakota is trying to raise money so she can be Home Coming Queen (feel free to send me your donations ;)).

Sunday we had a cookout and the kids WORE ME OUT...Devin & I ran around the yard all evening and I'd be willing to be he slept as soundly as I did after all that exorcise. I blew up the other 50" ball which is taller then the kid so it was a positive HOOT to watch him chasing the thing around. We forgot to get the cam out fer that so no pics L Sorry.

Monday the day was slightly less then wasted at the county fair. Lakota was in the Fairest of the Fair contest (which she was just a runner up). I think she did a FINE job though, especially since it was her first pageant ever.

Some pics of the Fair...

Devin sitting on Tim's lap (that's his dad)

Cyndi kissing Perrin (it's sooo adorable)

Lakota getting her award (the chick passing it out should be Miss Tennessee in a few years @_@)

Lakota walking off stage

All the little girls in the 5-6 year group (note: Lakota is on the left)

Over all I give the weekend a B-

Lakota is a cheerleader for the little guys football team for her school. Cyndi & I went to the game today, but could only stay for half of it because she is on some meds that don't mix well with the sun. Before half time two cheerleaders passed out and one of the football players did. At least two people from the stands also passed out (that I know of). After halftime Lakota passed out...so no telling how many others did as well. More the SIX people playing (players & cheerleaders) passed out...kinda makes one wonder why they have kids in elementary school play games when it's 101 degrees with a 107 heat index doesn't it?

At any rate...the news papers & news stations are all being called to get the word out & I think the PTA & the school board should also be notified and completely bitched out.
