Ya know that fort I've been wanting to build since like before October? Well, it's finally almost done.

I like SO built it myself, lol. You should come over and play in it with me. It's constructed out of $100 worth of discounted wood plus like a bunch of stuff I found out behind the barn lol. It's really safe... trust me.

The fort that Q built

It's not done yet though... I still need to put a roof on it, as well as a few more pieces of railing. Then eventually I may paint it, but my budget is dried up, so that may have to wait a bit yet...

If you look at the slanted red thing, it's actually railing on it's side/angled. It was Cyndi's idea to use as a ladder. I really liked the notion of it, and the slant gives something easy to climb, and reduces the risk of outright falling...

We have a new member of the Family, and another rescue story to share with you all. This one involves the nine lives of Tree Cat.

Thursday afternoon I was out checking for eggs and heard the most pitiful MEOW coming from the other side of the yard. Assuming it was Butters separated from her cathouse I thought I better go get her. My assumption could not have been wronger (is wronger a word?). It was a little black and white cat stuck up in a tree. I called to get it down with no luck...

Friday passed and I called for it several times again, and time and time again it just stayed up there.

Saturday passed and we were gone most of the day, so again, it stayed up in it's little niche.

Sunday rolled around, and for most of the day we had things to do, but we did take the time to at least try to get it down before the storms.

Angela, Cyndi and myself got the 24 foot extension ladder from my moms. We extended it ALL THE WAY and still could not reach it. So we lowered it a bit so I could get a good hold of the branch and then we tried to shake it out. That didn't work. So We got a rope, tied it to the branch, and tried to shake it out that way. That didn't work either. While we were talking over what else could be done, the little guy started to walk along the branch so we tugged and pulled and shimmied the rope making the cat loose it's balance, and down it fell...

The thing did aerobatic cartwheels for about 15 feet as it did an amazing freefall that was only interrupted by random branches, leaves, and limbs. It landed on one of the lower limbs of the tree with a racing heart and a bloody nose.

We quickly got the ladder to that height and I got up to it as fast as possible. It clawed the heck out of me, but that's OK, it really knew I was there to help so it allowed me to carry it down.

We got it into the house and gave it water and food, and in return it gave us all the love and thanks that anyone or anything could possibly give.

Jun. 30th, 2007 @ 10:15 pm A day with Devin

I mentioned in my last entry that I sent the day with Devin and gave a short run down. This will be a bit longer, though likely not much longer as there simply is not much to say as there was not all that much done, but now I'm get a bit long winded, not to mention long sentenceded but then that's not a word, so I'll just ad a period right here.

I called Shannon to see if she'd drop him off on her way to Athens, but she was not headed that way...at least not headed that way till I called to offer to take Devin off her hands for a bit. She got lunch, showered, and whatever else it is girls do before heading out to town and then showed up here. We chatted for a little bit then I loaded up the car with garbage and a small child and headed out for our big day.

I'm glad I took the little guy to the dump, as I'm pretty sure that he had a funner time then Lakota would have. In fact, he kind of wanted to stay there. Of course I could not leave him...but that did not stop me from sending that image to everyone in the family claiming I did ;)

After that we headed out Etowah's main street to do some antique shopping...something I think Lakota may have enjoyed more. Though that does not really matter, it's what *I* wanted to do, so it's what was done. We got there kind of late in the day so did not get very far before the shops started to close, but that's OK, Talk of the Town was open so we stopped for some Ice Cream Cones. Devin got a small Chocolate Waffle Cone, and I got a little bit bigger one with Vanilla. He was a little bit messier then I was, but both of us had a great time.

I called his mom to see if she made it back to town yet, and of course she didn't... so Devin and I headed over to the playground to hang out till they got back. He had some fun on the swing, then played on the slide, and ran in circles and swang again, and then climbed to the top of the Eagle's Nest. We met some random kid there who hung out and played with Devin the entire time.

After little over an hour playing we had to head out (because his parents were finally back) so that was our day.

Devin truly is the King D!

I spent the afternoon with Devin. I took him to the dump with me to drop off a few weeks worth of trash then into Etowah to window shop at the Antique stores. His parents were not back from Athens yet so we hung out at the playground. The image above is him standing next to some Graffiti...

Weekends here are always busy, if you’ve been following along with my journal you’d likely know that. But busy is not always bad, as some times the things that need to be done are really wants. This was one such busy weekend that was thoroughly enjoyed.

Saturday morning it started with Cyndi swapping cars with Amanda on her way home from working the nightshift. She brought Perrin along with her so his mama could get a few things done around the house. Cyndi then swung by here to pick me up, and then we headed over to Shannon’s to pick up Lakota.

The plan was to swing by the Cemetery to plant some flowers on Cyndi’s mother’s grave, and after that we headed up the mountain for a bit of sight seeing, and some tranquility that can only be found along the creeks there.

We stopped at Telico Grains Bakery for some munchies, and a little place called “Seven Sister’s Honey Acres” and got a few little nifty things (including some yummy honey sticks). Then it was up the Cherohala Skyway we went…

We stopped at one of the various lookouts to have a picnic and some sightseeing. While we were there we had races around the picnic table. Of course Perrin and Lakota kept beating me…I’m not the young man I used to be. After all that running I sat down on a log to rest. Perrin, in an attempt to make me feel better, sat down beside me. After a short rest we walked up a quarter mile, paved trail to the lookout. On the way up we spotted something stinky up the way which turned out to be bear poo, which we walked around holing our noses. The rest of the walk we kept our eyes pealed for the relieved animal that relieved itself. We eventually made it to the look out, though the sun was in our eyes so the pictures didn’t turn out that well, but the images are something we’ll likely not forget. On the way back we stopped to change perrin’s diaper, which gave Lakota some quiet time with Annebelle.

After we left there it was off to the Santeetlah Creek. It simply must be the most magickal place in existence… see for yourself!

Lakota and Perrin had a blast trying to skip a few stones, and rather then explaining it here I’ll just let the video speak for itself.

You can check out more pics HERE (I'll update it tomorrow with more pix) and more video HERE.
